Original drawings for Vanity fair by W.M. Thackeray : Amelia waiting, Studies of the Miss Osbornes. [ca. 1845]

A volume containing several of William Makepeace Thackeray's preparatory sketches for illustrations of his novel Vanity Fair, along with several related items. Thackeray's daughter Anne Thackeray Ritchie owned these drawings until 1913, when she sold them to the American book dealer Charles Sessler and the volume contains an autograph letter from Ritchie to Sessler about the drawings, as well as an autograph inscription by Ritchie detailing the drawings's provenance. Also in this volume are Ritchie's introduction to the 1897 biographical edition of the works of Thackeray and a printed page from Vanity fair, showing the final version of one of sketches included here.

[18] p., bound : 3 original drawings ; 32 cm.
